Look Inside: How a 40G Series Instrumentation Ball Valve Minimizes Leak Potential (Video)

Swagelok's 40G Series one-piece instrumentation ball valves maintain fluid integrity, control fugitive emissions, and prevent leaks in general-purpose and critical-service applications. See it in a cross-section and learn about key design features.

Swagelok ball valves are designed for quick quarter-turn operation and leak-tight shut-off. They come in various sizes, materials, and configurations, making them suitable for a wide range of applications, from general-purpose to specialized high-purity environments.

One type is the 40G Series, which is featured in a new 2-minute Swagelok video:

Discover how Swagelok's 40G series one-piece instrumentation ball valves maintain fluid integrity, control fugitive emissions, and prevent leaks across a range of applications, from general-purpose to critical-service. This video will take you through the design features that make it all possible.

We are asked every so often what the difference is between the 40 series and 40G series, since both are one-piece instrumentation ball valves. Here's how we break it down:

  • The 40 series is rated to perform at 10°C to 65°C. The 40G series was designed for thermal cycling in environmental and heat-process applications. It is rated to work from -53°C to 148°C.
  • Part of the difference comes from the materials used. The 40 series has packing material of PTFE. In the 40G series the single-piece, patent-pending encapsulated packing is modified PTFE or ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene.
  • The live-loaded design reduces the need for packing adjustment, compensates for wear, and improves thermal cycle performance.

Valve Pocket Guide ShadowOur 72-page Installer’s Pocket Guide for Swagelok Valves has data and ordering information on all types of Swagelok valves. If you look up our 40G Series valves, for example, you'll find a quick run-down on working pressure, temperature range, size range, materials, and catalogue reference number. Then there are easy-to-read tables of ordering information, including available sizes of end connections, plus all the ordering numbers are there as well. Only a paper version is available, but we are glad to mail a complimentary copy to our regional customers.

The same kind of information is there for the full range of valves and it’s easy to navigate as it’s sorted by function: flow control (needle valves); on/off control (ball/plug valves); directional control (check valves); over-pressure protection (relief valves), and instrument isolation. You also get special notes on applications and operations.
