Swagelok Valve Design & Performance

On average, industrial facilities have about 7,500 valves installed. The largest plants may have as many as 40,000. Research points to seals at valves as the top cause of fugitive emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). We can calculate the cost of each leak in dollars and detail how to mitigate them.

Swagelok Valves: Product Lines & Popular Assemblies

Scroll to see examples of Swagelok ball valves, check valves, manifolds, quick connects, and several other types. Choose from a variety of end connections, working pressure/temperature ranges, and options for high-purity/ultrahigh-purity (UHP) applications. For pricing or details, get in touch.

ALD
Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) Valves
ALD valves offer extreme precision and consistency. UHP versions have ultrahigh cycle life with high-speed actuation, 0.27 to 1.7 flow coefficients, immersibility up to 392°F, and surface-mount, tube butt weld, and VCR® end connections.
Ball and Quarter-Turn Plug Valves
Ball and Quarter-Turn Plug Valves
Our ball valves are designed for quick quarter-turn operation and leak-tight shut-off. They come in various sizes, materials, and configurations, making them suitable for a wide range of applications, from general purpose to specialized high-purity environments.
Bellows-Sealed Valves
Bellow-Sealed Valves
Bellows valves are useful in both general and high-purity applications. Their packless design and welded seal prevent leaks. U Series valves, for example, feature a secondary containment system that prevents leaks to atmosphere even if the primary seal fails.
Check Valves
Check Valves
Swagelok inline check valves are available with both adjustable and set cracking pressures, suitable for managing back flow in standard and high-purity settings. Excess flow valves halt excessive downstream flow, boosting system reliability and safety.
Diaphragm-Sealed Valves
Diaphram-Sealed
DL valves need just 1/4 turn to actuate from fully open to closed, and a position indicator ring shows visual confirmation. DS valves require approximately one and one-half turns from fully open to closed and have a flow coefficient of 0.30 for high-flow requirements.
Manifolds
Manifolds
We offer 2-, 3-, and 5-valve instrument manifolds. The 2-valve manifolds are for static pressure and liquid level applications; 3- and 5-valve are for differential pressures. Flow is controlled by a series of stainless steel needle valves, each with a specific function.
Needle and Metering Valves
Needle & Metering Valves
These valves feature straight-pattern flow coefficients from 0.004 to 0.16; low- and high-pressure service; and brass and 316 stainless steel materials. Every metering valve is factory tested with nitrogen at 1000 psig, and shell tested.
Process Interface Valves (DBB)
Process Interface Valves (DBB)
DBB valves enable smooth transition from process piping to instrumentation in a single configuration; with fewer connections, lower weight, and less space needed. Use them for isolation points, direct mount, close coupling, extreme service, and more.
Quick Connects
Quick Connects
Our quick connects require no twisting, turning, or wrenching and come in single-end shutoff, double-end shutoff, and full-flow models. The QF Series has compact coupling and full flow without orifice restrictions, and its O-ring is easy to replace. Keyed quick-connects help prevent accidental intermixing of lines.
Relief Valves
Relief Valves
Our R Series valves offer overpressure protection in general-industry applications with set pressures from 10 to 6000 psig. They open gradually as pressure rises and close when pressure drops below a set pressure. Others types can serve to vent signal line pressure.
GSM
Grab Sampling Modules
A key feature of the GSM is the switching valve that directs flow. Using the Swagelok 40G series ball valve for this switching valve, configurations are available with either 2 or 3 valves. This allows for simultaneous control of fluid routing, reducing the number of sequencing steps required to draw a sample.
Fluid Distribution Header example
Fluid Distribution Headers
Our fluid distribution headers have a main isolation valve and several outlets, each with its own isolation valve. As a distribution manifold, the header connects several users to the source of a utility fluid such as cooling water, steam, compressed air, or plant nitrogen.
Calibration & Switching Module
Calibration & Switching Modules
Your custom calibration and switching module can be as simple as a ball valve and a stream selector, or include a host of inlet assemblies: gauge, filter, relief valve, and pressure regulator. We help you specify number of sample lines, calibration lines, type of flow control needed at the outlet, and more. We can include manual calibration too.

Have Us Combine Valves with Other Components

We can assemble the valve(s) you need with other parts to provide a custom, ready-to-install solution.

We combine safe, reliable Swagelok components to produce assemblies for analytical instrumentation, grab sampling, and other uses (see the Product Lines section above for a few examples). We also build hose, bend tubing, and make filter retainer assemblies, for example. Design support, fabrication, assembly, and pressure testing are included. Results are warrantied just like Swagelok's individual parts. We even build in time to be onsite at installation, to answer any questions.

Frequently Asked Questions About Valves

What are the different types of Swagelok ball valves?

Among the options are:

  • One-Piece Instrumentation Ball Valves, 40G and 40 Series
  • Three-Piece Process/Instrumentation Ball Valves, 60 Series
  • Three-Piece Trunnion-Style Ball Valves, 83 and H83 Series

What is the pressure rating of a Swagelok valve?

Swagelok offers medium- and high pressure valves, fittings, and tubing. Among them are IPT Series check valves, needle valves, block and bleed valves, and proportional relief valves. They are designed to meet requirements of demanding applications such as alternative fuel industry infrastructure, wellhead control panels, hydraulic control panel, process control, instrumentation, chemical sampling, and more.

Are other brands interchangeable with Swagelok?

Do not mix or interchange product components with those of other manufacturers. Doing so voids the warranty.

We are here to answer questions and help with regulator selection. Please get in touch through this web page or call 780-437-0640.

Can we rebuild or repack Swagelok valves?

Yes, with one of our rebuilding kits. We offer rebuilding kits for manually actuated and remotely actuated valves. Each kit contains detailed instructions on how to adjust or replace the packing or rebuild the valve if needed. We posted an article about the specifics, here.

There are exceptions to the rule. To learn more, please download the literature offered at the top of this web page. (Need sales, support, or information? We are ready to help. Please click "Request Details" on this page.)

Do Swagelok valves reduce fugitive emissions?

With a LDAR program and low-e valves, yes. Learn how to minimize fugitive emissions and their associated costs by addressing leaks and choosing low-E certified valves in this article.

Benzene methane and ethanol are some of the most common gases of concern. Dynamic and static seals on valves pumps and flange connections are the most common sources of fugitive emissions.
